Fans React To News Of SM Entertainment’s New Project, NCT-Hollywood

Previously, it was announced that SM Entertainment would be launching a new reality show competition in order to search for members to debut as a new unit of NCT, NCT-Hollywood. Existing units include, NCT 127NCT UNCT DREAM, and WayV.The competition will be scouting young men between 13 and 25 years old, and fly them to Seoul where they will be mentored at SM Entertainment by Lee Soo Man himself, and of course, the other NCT members.

Fans have had a mixed reaction to the news. Here are some reactions from fans globally.

1. They announced this previously

It was previously released during a presentation conference that SM Entertainment was planning to expand NCT around Asia as well. Could this be merely the first step?

2. It would become a weak point

This would not be the first instance where fully Caucasian people would potentially (since nothing has been confirmed) sing as part of K-Pop. Previously, girl group Kaachi made their debut in K-Pop to much ire, despite having an Asian member.

3. A business ploy?

A tweet explained that SM Entertainment was probably attempting to utilize brand loyalty within the NCT name. This would help push the new group’s popularity.

4. It is unfair for current members

Controversial opinion or not, it seems many resonate with this fan who claims that the system is unfair to the members who have been with the group from the start and suffered trying to raise its popularity.

5. Ramen, juseyo!

Some are reacting to it with humor it seems.

6. Poor management

A gripe from fans has long been that SM Entertainment is unable to manage their current units properly. New members Sungchan and Shotaro do not have a unit group yet even.

7. Is this how Dear. U Bubble will look like?

A fan made a mock-up of a Dear. U Bubble message from NCT-Hollywood

8. We “Don’t Need Your Love”…

…but we do need HRVY! HRVY did a collaborative track with NCT Dream once, to much popularity. Sadly, the babe is British and not American.

9. Side-eyeing this

Erm… kind of speaks for itself.

10. She’s always a big mood

Seo Ye Ji in It’s Okay To Not Be Okay is always, always a meme.

What do you guys think of the news?
