SBS made the announcement following the report that the show would be cancelled.

We would like to share our position regarding Joseon Exorcist.

SBS has decided to cancel the contract for the broadcasting rights of Joseon Exorcist and cancel the broadcast, after recognizing the severity of the previous incidents.

SBS had already paid most of the fee for the broadcasting rights, and the production company had completed around 80% of the filming for the show.

Although there are concerns on our part about the economic loss and scheduling gaps for both us and the production company, we have decided to cancel the broadcast, with a feeling of heavy responsibility as a public broadcasting station.

Even before Joseon Exorcist started airing, the show was plagued with issues, with lead actors Lee Yu Bi and Jang Dong Yoon suffering injuries on set. Once Joseon Exorcist began airing, the show received backlash for their portrayal of Korean history using Chinese products such as century eggs and Chinese mooncakes. Due to their inaccurate portrayal, around 20 companies who previously pledged advertisement to the show pulled out, including big names such as BLACKYAK, Bodyfriend, Ace Bed, Hite Jinro, and KT.

SBS previously stated that they would be editing the controversial parts, but that was not enough, as over 184,000 people have signed a Blue House petition to have the show removed from broadcast permanently.
