Cherry Bullet’s Yuju Reveals The Painful Health Condition She Kept Secret From Everyone
In a new interview with KPOP IDOL OLYMPIC on YouTube, Cherry Bullet‘s Yuju revealed a health condition she kept secret from everyone.
When the interviewer asked Yuju about whether she’s faced any difficulties over the past few years as an idol, she didn’t have to think for long. The lead vocalist, lead rapper and visual explained that she very much enjoys being alone because of her troublesome feelings.
| KPOP IDOL OLYMPIC/YouTubeActually, I really like being alone. I really like being alone and don’t like to depend on other people.
— Yuju
Yuju went on to explain that when she feels “depressed” or complains, she worries about “giving off negative energy“. In her view, she should be showing her “bright side” and she feels bad when she doesn’t. So, ultimately, she tries to keep to herself and avoid talking about her troubles.
| KPOP IDOL OLYMPIC/YouTubeOne such trouble stems from her health. Sadly, the Cherry Bullet star suffers from a condition known as osteochondritis dissecans, or OD for short. Before divulging her condition to KPOP IDOL OLYMPIC, Yuju confessed that she’s “never talked about it before“.
| KPOP IDOL OLYMPIC/YouTubeOsteochondritis dissecans is a joint disorder which causes cracks in the bones and cartilage. This highly rare condition, which affects just 0.00015% to 0.0003% of people in the world, can cause pain, inflammation, and movement difficulties, especially during physical activity. It most commonly affects the knees, but in Yuju’s case, her ankle is afflicted joint.
I’ve never talked about it before, but my ankle is really weak… It’s a joint condition where the bone is about to break loose. I couldn’t control the condition, so it got worse.
— Yuju
Yuju, who is just 23 years old, revealed that her condition sometimes makes it very difficult to even walk, and that she was unable to stop it from getting worse. As such, when her OD began to overlap with “personal depressing problems” in her life, she found herself crying frequently which undergoing treatment. Treatment for OD can be non-surgical (for example, cryotherapy) or surgical, though Yuju didn’t specify her own treatment plan.

— Yuju
But despite everything she was going through during treatment, Yuju decided to go through everything alone with no support from her loved ones. “I feel bad about telling it to my mom or my friends“, she explained, “So I kept it to myself, but the fact that no one else knows about it was so sad.”
| KPOP IDOL OLYMPIC/YouTubeThankfully, these days, the starlet’s tears seem to come from a happier place. Yuju later shared that she sometimes cries while reading loving letters from the fans. She also added that Cherry Bullet will be working hard in 2021, so Lullets have plenty to look forward to over the coming months.
