How Long Could Jung Joon Young Spend In Jail For His Crimes?
Jung Joon Young has been embroiled in the recent KakaoTalk scandal for days now and he’s just recently admitted his guilt. In his apology letter, Jung Joon Young admitted to filming women without their consent.
Unfortunately, the act of voyeurism is a common offence in Korea and arrests for the crime have been growing in recent years. The laws surrounding the crime are somewhat murky which makes prosecution difficult.
Article 13 of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes states “a person who takes pictures of another person’s body, which may cause any sexual stimulus or shame, against the latter’s will by using a camera or another similar mechanism” can face punishment of imprisonment of no more than five years or by a fine not exceeding 10 million won ($7,846).
The court takes note of how the victim was dressed, when the victim was violated, the place the violation took place, camera angles and the body parts that the photograph captures when making their decision.
There are currently 10 reported cases of Jung Joon Young committing this crime which brings his sentence up to a maximum of 50 years or a fine of 100 million won ($88,594). The sentencing will, of course, be up to the judge and there are numerous other factors involved so this is purely speculative.
If the judge allows it, it is almost certain that Jung Joon Young will pay the fine as he can afford to do so.
