5 TWICE Covers That Every ONCE Should See
We all know how robust TWICE content is, from videos, to songs, to CFs, that it’s easy for some things to slip through the cracks.
This is extremely true when it comes to TWICE performing covers of other artists’ tracks – which is a shame because these covers really display a different side of TWICE that we don’t normally see.
So here’s a list of some of our favorites:
1) Taemin – “Move” (Music Bank in Hong Kong: January 2019)
While we don’t have official footage (yet), this up close and personal fancam shows us Mina, Chaeyoung, Dahyun, and Momo rocking a more sexy side of the girl crush concept. We’re especially impressed by how well it fits Dahyun, who is usually known for her silly, 4D ways. We definitely would love a TWICE comeback like this in the future!
2) Sunmi – “Gashina” (Music Bank in Chile: August 2018)
Nayeon, Momo, Mina, and Chaeyoung definitely show off that JYP family love by covering their former labelmate Sunmi‘s hit song. What’s cool about this cover is that it toes the line between cute and sexy to make a hybrid cute/girl crush concept. This really works well for TWICE because it adds a fresh flavor to their cute concept and shows more sides of each member. If JYP ever wanted to go this direction for a “TWICE 2.0” comeback, we’d be on board!
3) Wonder Girls – “So Hot” (Music Bank: June 2018)
TWICE brings retro back with this cover of their former labelmates Wonder Girls‘ “So Hot”. Mina, Jeongyeon, Jihyo, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu perfectly channel the “retro spirit” to make this cover a smash hit. They add a more more modern sass to their cover to update it a bit, but it works so well because it allows TWICE to make their cover their own. We definitely would love more retro tracks from them!
4) Ariana Grande – “Greedy” (KBS Music Festival: December 2017)
Going full on girl crush with their cover of “Greedy,” Nayeon, Jihyo, Chaeyoung, and Momo definitely do Ariana proud. It was a very bold song choice, but the girls did great in challenging themselves! Having to embody a new concept and sing in a language that one isn’t fluent in is super commendable. The girls did an amazing job, and we would definitely love to see more Ariana covers in the future (Thank u, Next? Please JYP.)
5) Beyonce – “End of Time” (KCon LA 2018)
Jihyo, Momo, and Tzuyu embrace their inner “Queen Bs” and slay this cover of Beyonce‘s “End of Time.”
In a stark contrast from their more innocent/sexy-cute TWICE personas, the girls instead embrace a more bold, brash, sassy, mature image with this cover. The girls look like they are having a blast, and it makes us wish we could have seen all the members participate in this cover – but we think ONCEs’ minds would have exploded if we have all that sassitude on one stage!
